Grub Worm Art

Does anyone know what these eventually turn into? I find them all the time when I dig, but I never know what they will become, and I would like to. I felt inspired by their digging and dirt and earth and wanted to paint one. So here one is. Does it "need" legs? I just noticed it doesn't have legs. Hmmm....

I love Turkey!

Wow! I had Thanksgiving three times this year! Once at my Cousin Mandy's with my Mom, Dad, Bro, T, Grandmother Peggy Joe, StepGrandfather Gary, Aunt Cherry, Cousin Candy, her 2 kids and new boyfriend, of course Cousin Mandy, her husband Shawn, and their 2 1/2 kids (she's due in May). It was very yummy! We were in her new house in Broken Arrow. The second place was at the Oktaha house. My Dad cooked. It was also very yummy! Then lastly we went to T's friend Rachel's house where we met up with our friends Nick and Sara, Rachel's husband Justin, and their friends Simone and her husband and my new friend from Italy, Minola. This was her first Thanksgiving in America so we had a bunch of fun asking and answering questions. That meal was also very yummy! I hope everyone has/had a wonderful holiday. Warm wishes and I hope it snows 10 feet! Woo-hoo!

Godzilla protects our neighborhood!

Does anyone else see the resemblance?

Superhero Pose

Just having some fun with my figures. I found this figure for $.50
at a flea market. He was well worn and has a unique feel to him. Like maybe he's really alive. Some things feel cold and dead, but every once and a while you come across something that feels different. You can't quite pinpoint it, but its undeniably there. Or is that just a weirdo me thing?

Hello November!

Ah, my favorite month has arrived! I love November. I love the way it smells. The leaves start breaking down, the trees change, the grass quits growing and I don't have to mow it! I love the way it gets cold. It's not too cold, just enough to make your nose run a little. When you come in from outside the end of your nose burns and gets stingy, and so do your fingers. You keep holding out and refusing to turn on the heat which means you gotta put on extra blankets and snuggle in at night. In the morning you feel all snuggly warm and as soon as you get up you realize how damn cold it really got last night when you sit down on that icy toilet seat. Woo! You have to actually use the scary heater thingy in your bathroom when you take a shower and it smells like burning cobwebs; which basically is what it is doing, burning all the cobwebs off from all year that have built up and you refused to climb up and clean off. Let's not forget Thanksgiving. Turkey, Pumpkin pie, fruit salad. Mmmmm. you are actually encourage to feast this month rather than fast. Fill up for the long winter. Ah, November...the last month before you wish it was next year. Happy November everyone!

T & Me & Puppy makes three!

I am proud to announce the arrival of the newest member of my family. She is small and cute and oh so loving. Part Mini Pinscher, part Beagle, and we think perhaps part Dachshund, born on Aug. 9, 2007. This is little Leela. She was found on 1-800-save-a-pet.com and was at a rescue in Prague, OK. Her mother was dropped off at the pound pregnant and was rescued before the puppies were born. That's the reason your supposed to spay people, so you don't end up with a pregnant dog. Anyhoo, here is a photo of the little darling. We are very proud parents.

Star Wars Shadow Box

So, I decided to make a Star Wars Shadow box to hang on my wall. I took my original 1977-1983 Star Wars Lukes, Leias & Hans and painted appropriate background scenes and fit them inside. I really like the way it turned out. I was thinking of making more with different figures. G.I. joes, Movie maniacs, etc. I even thought about getting deeper boxes, that way I could fit extra inside and make actual 3d trees, rocks, or anything else that might be in the foreground/background with the characters. It keeps the dust off of them and there is more space to hang them, then there are shelves to sit things.

They say they didn't know the radioactive cigarettes were harmful? What next Dr. Toxic and Chemical-o's? Can't we just live a little? Must it all be bad for us unless it's grown from nature?
DUH!

Meerkat Manor fans?!

Boy, these little guys are well fed!

Butterfly garden at the zoo

I got some great shots of animals at the zoo, but by far I think this was the best one. They had two cool butterfly exhibits.

Guess who went to the ZOO!

T and I recently got away for a perfect day at the zoo! The temperature was perfect and we saw almost all the animals except the tigers. My favorite Gorilla wasn't there and it looks like he may not live there anymore. They have a great new addition for the state centennial featuring most of Oklahoma's native residents. They even built a really cool night exhibit in a barn. It really was a great exhibit. I still think the Tulsa zoo is quite a bit better, but overall it was great fun!

Look Who Found My Blog! MOM!

So here's the E-mail my Mom sent me after she found my Blog (not that it was hiding or anything):

Hi Dearest Jen,
How are you? Don't let your frustrations cause you to use language that is unbecoming to you. You are much too sweet a young lady to talk like that. Your Mamaw would really be hurt too. I know you are you but you are you and I like the sweet Jen...not the ANGRY OTHER Jen. I know there are bad things in life but we need to look at the good and there is a lot of good in our lives. I love you. (that's one.)
I know you are expressing yourself and I know you are angry...but...don't worry...be happy!
I like some of the other things I saw on your sight...like the rainbow to your garden. Now that was sweet!
MOM

Oh, but that's not all! Here's one more:

I think a BLOG rating of G for General is a good
thing! I wouldn't want to change that.

I am your Mom and I love you.

MOM
I know she loves me, but she's always had a bit of a problem understanding freedom of expression. I'm an Artist as most of you know. Ironic, eh? Oh, and did I mention I'm almost 33 years old, have a job, live 60 miles away, own a house, and live independently of my parents and have since I was about 22?
No joke, I do. She's 58 on Sept. 13th. At least once a year she googles me and then calls me or emails me about what she's found and there is usually some form of disapproval involved. Moms...what can you do? Kinda weird. I don't think I've ever googled her.

Cool Publicity Stunt

NASA Shuttle to Launch Luke Skywalker's Lightsaber
By Robert Z. Pearlman

posted: 28 August 2007
10:34 a.m. ET

When the space shuttle Discovery launches the STS-120
astronaut crew in October, the force will be with them.

Stowed on-board the orbiter, in addition to a new module
for the International Space Station, will be the
original prop lightsaber
used by actor Mark Hamill as
Luke Skywalker in the 1977 film "Star Wars". The
laser-like Jedi weapon is being flown to the orbiting
outpost and back in honor of the 30th anniversary
of director George Lucas' franchise.

Before it can make its trip to orbit though,
the lightsaber will first fly to Houston, Texas,
home of NASA's Johnson Space Center, by
way of Southwest Airlines and a
Star Wars-studded send off from Oakland
International Airport in California on Tuesday.

Chewbacca, the towering Wookiee best
known from the film as Han Solo's co-pilot
on the Millennium Falcon, will officially hand
the lightsaber over to officials from Space Center
Houston during a ceremony at the airport. Joining
"Chewie" will be other characters from the
six-part sci-fi classic, including Boba and
Jango Fett and together they help push back
the airplane on the tarmac.

Once on the ground in Houston, the flight will
be greeted by a troop of Stormtroopers and
other Star Wars notables including the droid R2-D2,
who will deliver the lightsaber to a waiting line of Hummers
outside the baggage claim of the William P. Hobby Airport.
Accompanied by a police escort, the soon-to-be real space
artifact will be driven to Space Center Houston to be exhibited
inside a vault that currently displays moon rocks.

Space Center Houston, as the official visitor center for NASA's
Johnson Space Center, plans to publicly display the lightsaber
through Labor Day, after which it will be prepared for its launch
from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

The lightsaber is scheduled to depart California at 10:40 a.m.
PDT and arrive in Texas at 4:20 p.m. CDT according to a
release jointly issued Monday by Southwest Airlines,
Space Center Houston and Lucasfilm.

STS-120, targeted for launch on October 23, will be led
by commander Pam Melroy and pilot George Zamka.
The seven-person crew is completed by mission specialists
Scott Parazynski, Doug Wheelock, Stephanie Wilson and
European Space Agency astronaut Paolo Nespoli, as well
as space station Expedition 16 flight engineer Dan Tani.
Besides the lightsaber, their primary cargo is the station's
second Italian-built U.S. multi-port node named Harmony.

Here's Baylin!!!! GRRRR!

http://www.scifi.com/flashgordon/downloads/images/desktops/screens/Baylin_01_800.jpg
See what I mean?

Ming the Merciless my Butt cheeks!!!

http://www.scifi.com/flashgordon/downloads/images/desktops/screens/Ming_01_800.jpg
If this is Ming the Merciless than I am the King of Siam. When did Ming turn into a 5'5" blonde white guy? I seriously kept waiting for the REAL Ming to pop out from behind a curtain or something. Of course, this is from the new show on Sci-fi Channel "Flash Gordon". I was and still am a HUGE Sam Jones Flash Gordon fan, so I was really skeptical about the new show. Overall, I give it a C-. Flash is okay, no manly man like Sam Jones, Dale Arden...uh, she's alright, kinda maniquinish, Zarkov...annoying in a bad way, not in the good 80's movie way. Ming is completely unbelievable. However, Ming's daughter is pretty nice. The real saver though is Baylin. Who's Baylin, you ask? The hot, smart, kick-butt bounty hunter chick that makes it a love triangle for Flash & Dale. Hmmm....I see sexy bad jealousy episodes coming.
Maybe I'll hang around for a while.

More cool Figures from Sideshow!

Pretty good likeness. It's a two-figure pack.

About to be FREE of the man!

Thank the gods T went to college. I have been bustin' my ass for 6 years at the lousy stink hole i am employed by and still haven't gotten a promotion and still make under $9.40 an hour. I fall in what is considered the "poor" bracket. How is that possible? I've worn down my body, I've spent precious time and energy doing something that isn't ART or even ART related, yet for 6 years I have been loyal, hardworking, and greatly unappreciated. My last raise wasn't even technically a raise. The cost of living rose twice what my pay increase did. I've been discriminated against, lied to, promised things that were never to be, stolen from, and harassed. And that's just by the people I work with and for, not the customers. Don't even get me started on the customers. Now, however, there is a ray of hope. Let's say a rainbow of hope. T got a job at the college! Her pay will be 4 times what I was making after 6 years. Now, you tell me what's wrong with corporate America. My CEO makes $1,000,000 a year. I tried to take a three week vacation and you know what they told me. No. Why? Because three weeks is like a leave of absence and they would have to hire someone to fill in for me. How many vacations do you think my CEO got? How many weeks was he sunning his flabby white belly in the sun drinking pina coladas, and I can't get three weeks? 6 years of dedicated service and 3 weeks is too much to ask. They have to hire someone to cover my "leave of absence", but they can't give me more than a 14 cent raise? I was "strongly" discouraged from taking even 2 weeks together, and lectured about my RESPONSIBILITY to my co-workers and my loyalty to my place of employement. What about my life? What about my T? What about my dreams and desires and relaxation time. What the HELL! I want all of you, as you go out to shop this week and weekend, to think about that poor sap checking you out. If they come off a little short or bitter, just think back and remember, that poor son-of-a-bitch can't even get a break. You try working for 6 years and not being allowed to go frolic in the sun for a couple of weeks and see how cheery you are. Luckily, just knowing there is a light at the end of this long, long tunnel makes the bitter turn just a little sweeter. I will get the corporate world back! You just watch.

Alive and Kickin'

Howdy! First off, long time no blog. So much has happened the last couple months I am sure I will forget something. First off is of course the double major Graduation ceremony of someone we all know and love from the University of Oklahoma. Her picture is included in this message. Second, HALLELUJAH!, it finally stopped raining! I have had a water hole in my back yard for three months now. It was supposed to be a patio. I have started working on starting up a t-shirt company and doing freelance art stuffs. However, right now I have a block going on and I am a bit down. Okay, I admit a bit depressed. Okay...a lot depressed. I can't stand creative blocks. I need to get away. Preferably somewhere I have never been. Any suggestions? OH! My acorn squash soup is done. Blog ya later.

Coolest Mailbox in the Galaxy

Cool New Bender Toy

Check out this great new figure. There are supposedly more Futurama toys to come! not to mention the *NEW* DVD's and episodes on comedy central. Yippee!!!!

Gettin' off my butt

So, I have written and illustrated my first children's story. I am pretty excited. I have shared it with a few trusted individuals and they have given great reviews and welcomed criticisms. I am very excited and hopefully very soon I can post a page or two here. Next week I will begin sending it off, copy after copy, until someone picks it up. Wish me luck. It's about a chicken.

Here is a close-up of the monkey with the cymbals in case you couldn't make it out in the other photo.

New Art Piece

So here is a new piece I finished. It's a collage. I'm not usually fond of this process, but this one just all came together in a matter of minutes, like the gods had placed everything right where it needed to be so that my mortal mind could place it in the right sequence. I really like it.

First one of the year. January sunset on my front porch.

Curb Side Mail Delivery

So, now the mail carrier is delivery the mail to my driveway. How nice. The rest of my mail was blown all over the yard. Keep it up mail carrier...keep it up. I believe it may be a FEDERAL OFFENSE to tamper with the mail, even if you are the one delivering it.

Momentum

I really wanna go to the Art Extravaganza that is Momentum this weekend, Jan 12th & 13th, 8pm to Midnight, 1701 South Western, in OKC, but I don't wanna go alone. I really need to get together with some people and be able to talk Art and Life and Death and Blah, blah, blah. Of course, it is supposed to spit ice or something this weekend, so it probably won't be a good weekend to do anything. I need PEOPLE!!!! Which is really weird for me. I'm usually very hermity. That's my resolution! To be less Hermity and to meet new people despite the 18 years of brainwashing by my parents that strangers are all homicidal satanic maniacs that want to murder me. Ha ha. Yeah.... Maybe I'll just stay home.

Oh! Almost, But Not!

Yet another attempt by our inept postal worker! Gee, I hope the USPS is helping keep my Identity safe. Oh wait, who's side are they on? The Terrorists?!

Mailman Can't Get It In The Slot

Literally. My mailman is apparently incapable of getting the mail in the mail slot. He says the slots not big enough. No joke. The mailbox I bought after having Identity Theft problems locks and was approved by the USPS and also recommended by not only the Police Dept., but also the USPS themselves. However, my inadequate postal carrier argued with me that the mail won't fit, and told me I have to leave it unlocked. Unlocked? How is that going to keep people from stealing my mail again? I told him no, and that his suggestion didn't make sense. Mind you, I got one I was sure 5 Magazines, a couple catalogs, and some mail could fit in. Also know , I can get it to fit with ease. It's not difficult. Maybe it's not in a big fist-full wad like he stuffs boxes (haha) but it fits, a couple pieces at a time maybe. All of it. With plenty of breathing room. Maybe it takes seven seconds instead of four to get it in there, but I have no problems. Of course I get paid by the hour...postal carriers make the same no matter how fast or slow they go. Take a look at the pictures of the great service the USPS is providing me as a first time home owner. To be continued...
